Winsted firefighters were detailed to a reported kitchen fire at 55 Overlook Road. On arrival of Deputy Chief Mongeau, smoke was visible coming from the rear of a 2 story wood frame residential structure. Chief Mongeau requested a full alarm assignment of 3 Engines, the Tower Ladder and the Rescue to respond.
First arriving Engine 1 stretched a line into the structure and contained the fire to the kitchen of the home. Engine 4 hit a nearby hydrant to provide a water source. The Tower Ladder provided ventilation and overhaul duties.
A RIT Team from New Hartford and Norfolk was immediately requested, but quickly canceled when the fire was knocked down.
Crews did an excellent job of containing and extinguishing the fire.
At this time the incident remains under investigation by the Fire Marshals Office.
