The Winsted Fire Department responded to a report of smoke coming from a building at 145 Prospect Street at approximately 1611 hours. On arrival of the first responding units, smoke was observed coming from the windows and eaves of the two story, wood frame residential home.
First initial reports included possible occupants trapped in the home. On the arrival of Engine 1, a hydrant that was adjacent to the property was utilized as the first water source, and a crew placed a 2 inch line in operation by accessing the side door of the home.
On the arrival of Tower 1, Engine 4 and Engine 2, crews performed a primary and secondary search of the structure. Engine 4 took another hydrant and laid a supply line to Engine 2 for a secondary water supply.
Interior crews reported possible fire extension thru the walls and into the second floor and attic area. At that time a second alarm was struck for additional manpower. Norfolk and New Hartford FD responded as RIT teams, and Pleasant Valley, Riverton, Colebrook and Burrville responded for additional manpower in staging and for station coverage.
The fire was declared under control within an hour and by 1800 hours, overhaul was complete and most units had been secured and returned to their Stations. At 1810 hours, the scene was turned over to the Fire Marshals Office for investigation.
