On Tuesday, August 03, 2010 at about 11:00 pm the Winsted Fire Department received a report of heavy smoke coming from an abandoned factory building at the corner of Lake Street and East Lake Street. Engine 1, Engine 2, Engine 3 and Tower 1 responded to the scene.

On the arrival of the first fire units, heavy smoke was found to be coming from the old Union Pin Company building on Lake Street. Once wood coverings were removed from the windows, fire was found in one room. Defensive operations were initiated and the bulk of the fire was quickly knocked down.

After a short time, crews entered the interior and conducted extensive overhaul, knocking down any hidden fire found in the walls and cockloft.

Norfolk FD was requested to provide RIT.

The Fire Marshal is investigating the cause, and crews cleared the scene at about 1:15 am.
