Firefighters from Engine Company 4 raised almost $1,800.00 for Special Olympics by participating in the annual Penguin Plunge at Highland Lake. Firefighters plunged into the freezing water shortly after noon. Air temperature at the time was a balmy 10 (yes, 10!!) degrees.
The ice was cut earlier in the week by a team of firefighters led by Assistant Chief David Sartirana. A group of Cold Water Rescue personnel were within the water to keep the participants safe and practice their skills.
All personnel, from participants to those who directed traffic, deserve a great BIG THANK YOU for their work and dedication at the event.
